LET'S TALK ABOUT THE GED®:
WHAT IS IT?
Think of the GED® as your fast-track ticket to success.
It’s a high school equivalency credential recognised worldwide—including here in South Africa—that proves you’ve got the skills and knowledge to take on college, careers, or life’s next big challenge.
ONLY 4 SUBJECTS:
Math
Science
Social Studies
Language Arts
The GED® shows the world you’re ready to level up—and with my coaching, you won’t have to do it alone.
I’ll guide you step by step, making sure you understand tricky concepts, stay motivated, and feel confident every step of the way.
WHY CHOOSE THE GED® ROUTE?
Traditional schooling is designed for a one-size-fits-all model, but your teenager isn’t a statistic.
The GED® offers a recognized, empowering alternative:
Zero Classroom Anxiety: Your teen learns entirely at their own pace, free from rigid schedules, peer pressure, and the overwhelming environment of a traditional high school.
Focus on What Matters: Instead of juggling 7 or 8 stressful subjects, the GED® concentrates on just 4 core areas.
Fully Recognized in South Africa: Evaluated by SAQA at an NQF Level 4, it is a legitimate school-leaving option that opens real doors to private higher education institutions, TVET colleges, and Higher Certificate bridges.
A Fresh Financial and Mental Start: Say goodbye to crippling school fees, uniforms, and endless textbooks. The GED® is highly cost-effective, allowing you to invest directly in targeted coaching where your child actually needs it.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The GED® has four tests: Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. You can prep online, from anywhere, on your schedule.
Pass all four tests, and you’ll earn a GED® certificate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the GED® legally recognized as a Matric equivalent in South Africa?
Yes. The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluates the GED® on an individual basis as closest to a National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4). It is a fully legitimate school-leaving credential used by thousands of South African homeschoolers and alternative learners to enter the workplace or study further.
Can my child go to a South African university with a GED®?
Yes, but the pathway has changed recently. Universities South Africa (USAf) no longer lets South African students apply directly for a Foreign Conditional Exemption straight after completing the GED®. Instead, students successfully unlock degree studies through two highly popular routes:
The Higher Certificate Route: Students enroll in a 1-year Higher Certificate course (NQF Level 5) at a college or university. Passing this unlocks complete exemption from USAf, allowing them to bridge directly into a full Bachelor’s Degree.
Private Higher Education: Leading private institutions like Boston City Campus accept the GED® directly for specific degree programs and handle the USAf exemption paperwork on behalf of the student.
What tertiary institutions accept the GED® in South Africa?
GED® graduates are widely accepted across various private universities, TVET colleges, online international universities, and vocational training centers across the country. It is highly respected for commerce, IT, marketing, and creative fields.
(Note: If your child wants to study medicine or engineering, a traditional matric or Cambridge path remains the better fit.)
My teenager is overwhelmed. How long does the process take?
Because the GED® consists of just 4 subjects (Maths, Science, Social Studies, and English RLA), it is highly flexible. Most students working with a coach complete their preparation and pass all exams within 9 to 12 months, studying completely at their own pace without the pressure of a traditional classroom environment.
How do the GED® exams work?
The GED® consists of four separate subject exams.
You do not need to write all four exams at once. Most students prepare for and complete one subject at a time.
Before booking an official GED® exam, international students are generally required to complete the GED® Ready Practice Test for that subject. The GED® Ready test predicts whether you are likely to pass and helps identify any areas that still need improvement.
All exams are computer-based and are written at an approved GED® testing centre. Once you pass all four subjects, you earn your GED® credential.
Current GED® Testing Costs
Current GED® Testing Costs
GED Ready® Practice Test
$7.99 USD per subject
$25.99 USD for all four subjects
Official GED® Exams
$90 USD per subject
$360 USD for all four subjects
Please note: GED® fees are set by the GED® Testing Service and may change. Testing fees are paid directly to GED® and are separate from any coaching or preparation services.
Don’t worry if this sounds overwhelming. I guide students through every step—from setting up their GED® account and preparing for the GED® Ready tests to booking their official exams and planning their next educational pathway.
